Neko Story

"Your fault? It's not your fault. Whether or not you got up sooner, they would have gotten us anyway. You saw how they were waiting there, and they even said so." He didn't want Adam beating himself up over something he thought he was at fault for when he really wasn't at fault for anything. "Nothing is your fault, although, I think we should have stayed here like you suggested." He laughed weakly. "Well, no, they would have gotten to us sooner or later. Now that they've gotten us, that should be all out of their systems, so now they shouldn't have the urge to come at us again." He wanted Adam not to blame himself in any way or form, because it wasn't true in any way or form.

Adam shook his head as Elliot told him that it wasn't his fault. He was too distressed with it to listen to reason. "It's my fault. . . all my fault" he whispered to himself, staring at the ground in a sort of frozen horror with himself, unable to say anything else. It wasn't even really that bad. . . the two of them had only gotten beaten up, and they would heal. . . it's not like he had been the cause for someone dying or something. He looked up at Elliot, biting his lip again. "I've only known you for about 24 hours and already you've gotten beaten up because of me" he muttered, looking away again, slightly ashamed to meet the older neko's gaze.

"What? No way," Elliot stated, "I was asking for it from them for a long time, y'know? They've been messing around with me since the begining of the school year." And of course, this was true. Everyday, one of the guys in that group would pick on him, say something nasty, and he'd shoot it back. Nothing different from what he usually got at schools and in his life. "Listen, Adam, don't beat yourself up over this, 'cause it's not your fault, no matter how you look at it. Even if you turn it upside down, or inside out, none of this was by your cause." He tried consoling the other neko who seemed really convinced that this was his fault. He was about to say something else, but the sound of a car's locking horn going off was heard. Then, a knock on the door. "Ah, that's him. Come on, don't beat your self up about this, and let's go." He forced himself up with the little energy he had, making his way to the door painfully, opening it and greeting his friend. "Let's go, Adam, this shouldn't take too long."

Adam was silent, not knowing what to say, though he beat himself up on the inside as Elliot tried to convince him otherwize. As much as he trusted Elliot and wanted to believ him, he just couldn't do it. He glanced at the door when the horn went and then there was a knock at the door. He knew it was their ride, nobody else ever coming to his door, and someone being expected anyways. He got to his feet slowly, wincing at the throbbing pain in his body and the slight dizzyness, and he walked to his door, gritting his teeth as he did so. He smiled slightly at Elliot's friend as he hobbled out the door, closing and locking it after him, though he stayed silent. He leaned on the door for a moment before making his way slowly towards the car, thinking about the hospital now nad he froze. "Umm. . . at the hospital do they ask for your parents' phone numbers?" he asked, pretty sure that they did. It was something he didn't want to do, and probably couldn't anyways, not knowing where they lived anymore, but not wanting to see them, ever again.

"Err, I don't think so?" Elliot answered, trying to remember the last time he went. When he had been bitten by those dogs that had been unleashed at him, he had limped out, nearly crawled out, and over to the hospital. They didn't ask any questions, just treated him, and let him be. "They didn't last time I was there, so maybe not." He wondered why Adam wouldn't want his parents knowing he had been beaten up and was getting checked over in the hospital. Maybe he just didn't want them worried, or knowing about the money that they would have to pay. Elliot had the money thing covered, if that was his concern. They got into the small car, Elliot already panting from the small distance they had gone to get to it. "Okay, so, hospital," he told his friend. He got the instructions and drove them down to the nearest one. It only took about ten minutes, but within those ten minutes, Elliot had to fight to stay awake. "Right, so we only need a check up or something here, just to make sure things are okay, right, Adam?"

Adam sighed in releif and continued on to the car, gritting his teeth. "Thank god" he muttered. If they had found some way to locate his parents, he didn't know what would happen. They had put up posters wanting him back when he first ran away, only wanting himt o abuse him some more, but he stayed out of sight, and eventually allt he posters were gone, but if they came to the hospital and found him, he would probably have to go back with them, and he shuddered slightly at the thought, climbing into the backseat of the car. He was silent as they drove to the hospital, his head against the window, the cool glass helping his headache slightly. He looked at Elliot at the other neko's words and he nodded. "Yeah. . . then we'll be fine" he said with a slight smile. He knew they would be fine, as long as there was nothing wrong with either of their heads, and they would heal from their beatings. He looked up as they arrived at the hospital, and he hesitated to get out of the car, not really knowing what to expect, never having been there before.

"M'kay, then, let's go and get this over with." He walked into the air-conditioned lobby, getting stares from the nurses and patients. Elliot limped over to the desk, asking for a check up. The nurse didn't look like she believed him when he said check up, but she told them to sit down and fill out some junk anyway. Elliot just put the same things he had last time he was here, which meant some of the information was made up. Just the unimportant details, anyway. He turned his in shortly after it was given, remembering most of the stuff he had put last time had helped him with getting it done faster.

Adam followed Elliot into the lobby closely, not knowing really where to go, and feeling slightly nervous. He was given some papers to fill out as well, after saying that he wanted a check up as well. He looked at the sheet and filled it in, thankful that he didn't have to put his parents' phone number on it. He turned it in, sitting beside Elliot wearily. "So. . . what do we do now?" he asked a bit nervously, having no idea whatsoever what he was supposed to do, or where to go, and he felt pretty clueless and out of place. He looked around at the people in the room, who were looking at the two nekos more than they normally would, seeing as the two were covered in bruises.

"Well, I guess we wait until we're called on, then we both go see the doctor, he does some tests or something, and we leave. Well, that's how it is most of the time.... and on tv," he added, thinking about it. "Yeah, it's not too hard to do this, so we're all good." They waited a bit for the doctor, but finally after clearing some of the patients out of the room, they were called. "Come on, let's go," Elliot said, standing up with a bit of swaying. "Sooner this is over with, sooner we get to go home." They followed the nurse that led them to where the doctor was, and when he saw them, Elliot could tell he was surprised. "What happened to you?" he asked them with a shocked look on his face.

Adam nodded and relaxed in his chair, watching the other people in the room without much intrest. He didn't know how bad he looked, other than his arms, so he had no idea if he had any bruises on his face or neck, but he figured he must have at least a few. He got to his feet wincing as they were called, and he followed Elliot and the nurse to where the doctor was, tail twitching slightly. He looked at the doctor and thought quickly about the question, knowing that if they told the truth they'd have to talk to the police, probably charging the guys for assault, so cast around quickly for a lie, not coming up with a very good one. "I uh. . . fell down the stairs, and grabbed Elliot, and we both fell down two flights of steep stairs and hit a wall" he lied quickly, trying to keep the uncertainy out of his voice.

Elliot looked over at Adam with his eyebrow raised, as he heard the quick excuse for how they were injured. "Err, yeah, and then we kinda passed out, and the next thing we wake up to, is this," he said, gesturing at their beaten bodies. "We just wanted to make sure nothing's broken or anything, to be on the safe side, y'know?" The doctor just shook his head, like he didn't believe them but it was what he was going to stick with. He asked if they had any pain from inside their body, and Elliot could only say his ribs when he breathed. He was sure Adam could say the same for his head. He asked them several questions, the typical doctor kind of thing, and then he asked them to remove their shirts. To Elliot, why did it feel like gym class with his gym teacher all over again? Maybe because he never really liked changing in front of people, and rarely did, except for gym.

Adam nodded in agreement as Elliot added onto the story a bit. He could tell that the doctor didn't beleive them, but really, it was a pathetic excuse. . . but the est that he could come up with in the few seconds to make it not seem suspicious. Adam answered the questions that he was asked, wondering if they would be able to go home soon. He hesitated slightly when they were told to remove their shirts, but he complied stuggling with his bruised arms to get his blue shirt over his head, blushing slightly. The only time people saw him with his shirt off was in the one year he took gym, but other than that never. He held his shirt in one hand and glanced down at his pale but bruised chest, grimacing slightly.

Elliot watched as Adam removed his shirt, how embarrassed he looked. He was adorable like that, he had to admit, even if now wasn't the time to think about stuff like that. When Elliot removed his shirt, he removed it slowly and carefully, wincing as he reaised his arms above his head to get it off of him. He looked at his torso, seeing dark red spots that had cut open, probably from people's shoes, and those red spots were probably where he had some broken ribs. There were loads of bruises marking his chest and his arms up, making him look like a dalmation. He wondered briefly if they had cats like that.

Adam felt a bit awkward standing there shirtless in front of a complete stranger and his boyfriend, who he had only known for about a day, but he ignored it. He winced seeing Elliot take off his shirt, and seeing how much worse the other neko's injuries were. He couldn't help his slight intake of breath at the sight, and the guilt came back to him, that it was all his fault. He waited as the doctor looked them both over, hoping that he wouldn't be even more suspicious at the fact that Elliot was so much more bruised than he was, and he even had splotches of red.

"Err, I was trying to make sure I was the one who landed when we reached the bottom, just so my friend here, wasn't crushed by me or anything," he said quickly, trying to explain why he had so many more bruises than Adam. The doctor took a look at both of their wounds, sometimes pressing his hand to some of them, checking how bad they were or if there was a fractured bone or something. There was a bruise on Adam's arm that made Elliot suspicous of an injured bone, so he would be sure to point it out to the doctor to check if he didn't notice it.

Adam stood pretty still through most of his examination, wincing at the bruises that really hurt when the doctor touched them, especially the one on his arm. His tail twitched slightly, feeling even more awkward with the doctor's hands touching his chest and arms. He looked sideways at Elliot, looking at some more of the bruises on the silver-haired neko's chest. Some of them looked pretty bad, and he hoped that there was nothing serious. He didn't really think much of the one on his arm, not knowing what to expect with a broken bone, never having gotten one. The doctor didn't sat anything about it either, so there was no reason for the blonde neko to really think anything of it. The doctor straightened up, finished with his examination of the two nekos, and Adam relaxed, knowing that they could go home soon.

"So, what's the damage?"Elliot asked, seeing the relief on Adam's face when the examination was finished. The doctor lookedat them with the skeptal look that had been there from the begingin. Obviously he still didn't believe them about getting their bruises and injuries from falling down some stairs. "We all right, or what?" he asked again, trying to get the doctor away from the suspicion of them not actually falling.
"For the most part, you seem to be fine," he said slowly, chosing his words carefully. "You both have some broken bones, and I am concerned about your head," he told Adam. There were tons of mars around his head that would give off this worry.

Adam glanced at Elliot when he asked what the damage was, before looking back to the doctor. He didn't think he was that bad, other than being extremely sore. He could tell that the doctor still didn't beleive them, but at least he didn't ask any more questions, and hopefully he wouldn't. He let out a releived sigh when he said that they were mostly fine, but he grimaced at the next words. As abusive as his parents had been, he had never broken a bone, but he figured that it was the one in his arm that seemed to hurt more than the rest. He glanced to Elliot, trying to figure out what he had broken, but he couldn't tell, not like he expected to be able to. He wasn't to surprised that the doctor was concerned about his head, the way it was pounding, but his head subconciously went to his head, wincing at the slight pressure he put on it.

Elliot looked over once at his boyfriend, wondering what they could do about his head, just to check in case. "Soo, we're all good, right? Just need some casts, and then we're good?" The doctor pretty much nodded, but also said their cuts needed cleaning, so he hurried up with the antiseptic stuff. Then, he had the supplies for making the casts. Adam got one on him first, his arm. Elliot would need something for his broken ribs, he just didn't know what, since he'd never broken his ribs before. They wrapped a tight bandage around his torso, he winced as it pressed against his ribs. When they were done, Elliot paid for it and they headed out with the friend that had brought them there. He dropped them back off at Adam's house, and the first thing Elliot did, was plop down on the couch, completely sore and tired.

Adam was silent through as their cuts were cleaned, wincing slightly at the sting of the chemicals used to clean them out. He was still silent as there was a cast put on his arm, and Elliot had his ribs wrapped up in tight bandages, not finding a need to talk really. He put his shirt back on and they finally left, sore and tired, being driven home by Elliot's friend. He said his thanks when they were finally at his house, and he unlocked the door, walking inside gingerly and easing himself down into the chair he had been occupying earlier as the older neko dropped onto the couch. "Well, I don't think he beleived our story at all, but it was the best I could come up with in that short a time" he said with a small smile. "At least we'll be okay though" .

About ten minutes later there was a firm knock at the door, and he got up confusedly, wondering who would be at the door. He opened it, heart sinking as he saw the police officer there, smiling at him. "Umm. . . hello" he said timidly, ears sinking into his hair.
"Hi, I'm officer Alex Burningham, and I'm here to discuss with you the cause of the injuries that you and your friend have suffered" he said, smiling at Elliot over Adam's shoulder.
"Um. . . okay, come on in" he said quietly, opening the door a bit wider so that the officer could come in. He sat in the last chair, and Adam sat down in the one he had just left, looking at the police officer, dreading what was to come.
"So, I see you two have sustained some pretty bad injuries, and you say you fell down the stairs?" he asked looking between the two nekos.

Elliot was near sleep, when he was brought out of his half sleep state by a loud knock at the door. Adam answered it before he could get up and get it himself. He heard some of the talking, but didn't know who it was. He saw someone look over Adam's shoulder, smiling. He noticed the uniform of the police department, his ears falling back close to his head as he dreaed why the officer could possibly be hear. It would be impossible for the officer to be here because of his thieving, so that couldn't be it. The officer was let in, and Adam sunk into a chair, looking just as worried as Elliot was. He heard the reason why the officer, Alex Burningham, was here, and he nodded, glancing quickly over at Adam, wondering probably the same thing that was on the neko's mind.
"Er, yeah, we did fall down some strairs. Adam wasn't looking where he was going, and he tripped down these strairs, see, and I was gonna try and grab him, but he grabbed onto me as I reached out, and of course, he dragged both of us down." He doubted the officer would believe this more than the doctor had, but whatever. The officer had no real proof of what had really transpired, so it didn't matter how much they lied about what happened to them.

Adam nodded in agreement to everything the older neko said, trying to keep the look of worry off his face, and he tried his best to look casual, like they weren't lying. Officer Burningham gave them a skeptical look and wrote something on a clipboard that Adam hadn't noticed he was carrying. "And where were these stairs? I have noticed that this is a one story house, so it wasn't here. Your house maybe?" he looked at Elliot again, and Adam didn't know what the older neko's response would be. He would probably ask to see Elliot's house or something, and ask for eye-witnesses. He could tell that the police wanted to find out who beat them up, but wanted them to admit the truth first.

"Err, um, it was at a, a, um," Elliot raced through his mind, trying to come up with something quickly, he probably sounded so unconvincing right now. Come on, he was good at this kind of thing. "We were at my...dad's house, yeah, we were. I was showing him my house, and he was so distracted with the stuff in it, he fell down the strairs and pulled me along for the ride, which was anything but comfortable." He tried to put some humor in it so it didn't sound like they were tyring so hard. If anything, his dad wouldn't care if he brought the police home and the police asked questioned. Either he'd be too stubborn or drunk to answer, or he'd just say yes and nod.

Adam bit his lip as Elliot hesitated in saying where they were, but he got it out, though Burningham was looking even more sceptical. "Yeah. . . sorry about that. . . heh" he scratched the back of his head and gave an appologetic grin to Elliot.
"Right. . . " the officer muttered, scribbling on the clipboard some more. "And was your father home at teh time to clarify?" he looked to Adam this time, who hadn't said much in the little interview, other than agreeing with the older neko. His tail twitched and he looked at Elliot, having no idea what to say, not knowing his father at all, so he didn't know which would be better to say, yes or no.

"Eh, yes and no," Elliot answered, trying to sound calm and collected, even though he was anything but that at the moment. "My father was home, sort of. But, he was drinking again, so he wasn't really paying attention, obviously drunks can't really tell when their own son and his friend are falling down some stairs and nearly breaking their necks in the process." Elliot laughed slightly, hoping it looked like he was being carefree with the situation. Of course he had seen the clipboard the guy was writing on, and he ws curious to see what exactly he was writing. "So, to answer the question thoroughly, yes, my father was home, but no, he was no in his right mind to actually be able to clarify and stuff."
